Hi im stuart, new here. I remember using/seeing some seti software like a few years ago, it had a visual screen savor where you could see pikes of information flowing down to your computer, also a legend and symbols relating to differant things....well ive just instaled the bionic software and theres no screen saver, just a black page? has something gone wrong? do i need to instal something else? also ive added my details (proxy) to the bionic program and it has started but i mean what does it do? is it downloading/processing and sending back to seti? umm.

thanks

The last answer is less than useless - the boinc screensaver will just give you a bouncing B, you might as well have flying ironing boards on your screen. It doesn't address the problem that Stuart and I have - how do you download the SETI screensaver, with it's pretty colours & graphics that Stuart describes. All Boinc (stupid name) seems to do is act like my manager gives me lots of work, doesn't tell me why, doesn't explain things well, pays me nothing. What Stuart and I need is setiathome_win_3_08.exe. Where the hell is it?

(I have a copy that a friend of mine saved when he first went to the site on my recommendation. I've loaded it, it works, and we'll see what happens in 20 hours time! I suspect that the kiddies toy programme will be unecessary to up/download, - we'll see!)

If you get stuck Stuart, I'll email you the programme -it's 773Kb.

As far as I am aware, the Seti screensaver app downloads automatically once Boinc is connected to the Seti Web site, you don't have to download it separately. Though the screen saver doesn't work if you install/run Boinc as a service.

If you want to check the screen saver go to the work tab in Boinc Manager, click on the project that is currently running, and then click on the show graphics button.

The screen saver that I had (don't use it anymore) is similar to the one I had on Classic (I preffered the Classic screen saver).

Anybody out there using the current Seti Boinc screen saver?

If you installed Boinc as a service you don't get the screen saver. If you did then uninstall Boinc and reinstall after shutting down.

If it is spinning, it is the BOINC screen saver, if it is static, it is the classic screen saver (unless you have succeeded in changing your settings to turn off the spin) and you are running classic again.

The bouncing B means that either you have not attached to a project, or the project cannot show graphics, or BOINC cannot show graphics.

If you have installed as a service, you can set up the service to use the server account and allow interaction with the desktop - this will allow the graphics to show.
