I have a similar system as yours, I run BOINC constantly, but I do not experience any of your problems. I schedule to run defragmenter every night; that may be one of the things that helps to run smoothly. |

I am running a similar PC and it was real sluggish! I reset my general preferences to :Do work while computer is in use? no Do work only after computer is idle for (applies only if above is 'no') 1 min Then i set Boinc Manager to "run based on preferences" or you could change: On multiprocessors, use at most 2 processors to 1 processor(so multi-threading only does Boinc on "half the Processor" Now when I do work on my PC it still "flys"! I am still running 4.25. I hope the bugs get worked out.... maybe on 5.0! Some things to try - -Disable the Indexing Service. -Set file backup and undelete programs to ignore BOINC. -Set anti-virus programs to ignore BOINC. BOINC regularly writes/rewrites several files, and that has a tendency to overload other programs that look for and track changed files. Enough that the entire system slows down. |

Seti@home runs at a low priority so should not affect normal activity on your system. You mention version 4.33, is that a typo? just that the current release is 4.43. If you do have 4.33 update to the latest release. Have a look in task manager to see what is using the CPU time. Click start, select run and enter taskmgr click OK to lauch task manager, select the Processes tab and click on the CPU column to sort by CPU usage, what tasks are listed as using the CPU time? |
