Some firewall apps do not recognize upgrades as the same program even if the file name and location are unchanged.

Example: NIS 2005. I have to manually disable permissions for BOINC, close the NIS interface, then manually enable web permissions for BOINC.

This difficulty has consistantly produced the -113 error in the messages screen of BOINC for several versions in a row.
