I read an article on MSNBC.com located here http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8029534/ about the Allen Telescope Array.

I was wondering if the Allen Telescope Array is being used to provide SETI@Home with on-going new data?

The article says: "Now SETI can scan places 24 hours a day, seven days a week and run the analysis in real time."

Doesn't look like they'll need any distributed computing.

The scan just generates a boatload of raw data that needs processing...

So, are you saying that the raw data is being passed on to those of us that crunch for Seti@Home?

No, I believe that the data we are getting is still only from Aricebo, and Parkes will be added next. I am not certain whether the Allen Telescope array will be added to the S@H client or whether they are doing something else with the data. The raw data from Aricebo is split into chunks and we get to process it. The same may become true for the Allen Array, and probably will become trur for the Parkes telescope.

Torrey,

The Allen Telescope Array is a completely different (and self-contained) project. We have an article about it at

http://skyandtelescope.com/resources/seti/article_253_1.asp

For descriptions of all current SETI projects worldwide:
