Yes, you are a laughable character, paulie-poo! I remember when you started to post here, you were so interested in "intelligent" conversation and you tried so hard to appear intelligent with your fancy-schmantzy words, you found in your thesaurus, and how you tried to point out that a word in English can have many different meanings. Good to tell us dumbasses (in your, not so humble, oppinion) something we already knew or had very little interest in! You tried so hard!! You really wanted to be one of the group, the very same group, you now call "self-appointed elite"! You really sucked up to us here in general and me in particular, and now you deny that! Poor paulie-poo!!! You try too hard, paulie-poo! And let me give you a piece of advise for the next time you want to enter a board like this: Dont try so hard! I've not made claims that something was not worth my time, .....I give of my time freely.... And yet, you don't defend most of your bogus posts. Indeed, you have on more that one occasion denied believing in the very articles for which you provide links. You consistently ignore direct questions and challenges to your position. That, to me, is treating these questions and challenges as if they are "not worth your time". Your typical response is simply to deride the comments others make, for example, your comment that my post is "Typically weak and laughable....". And once again, you fail to defend your position. I have noticed this several times in your posts that you accuse others of, what you do yourself! A misrepresentation for the most part, hairball.... but, quite right on one point, I have made note of the folks who would impose standards they themselves do not adhere to.... As I said, examples are evident in many many places..... I laugh every time I see another example..... I'm laughing now, ..as a matter of fact. Why not start a campaign to have him impreached? . Impeachment would be one alternative for some of the perpetrators, though impeachment might not be feasible or legally applicable in others.... The question was, What do you think ought to be done about it? I already know you prefer that it's just not spoken of..... but it is interesting that you suggest impeachment. Some have called for war crime tribunals.... I'm not sure what is the best way to deal with the situation or what the proper punishment may be. Congress should probably be the first place for a line of inquiry.... failing that, then the Courts would be the next logical step. Either one will take public pressure to bolster the political will to follow it through. Left to their own devices, some in the current administration may wish to further their desire to be exempt from any ethical standards. They, like some others, only wish to impose ethical standards on others, not have them apply to themselves. I do know that it shouldn't be ignored and that we ought to take steps to guarantee it doesn't happen again..... part of that might be aided by keeping the issue alive, not allowing it to become just 'old news' that's dismissable because it causes discomfort or distorts one's vision/version of America. This is a SCIENCE Forum. That's a laugh, cw, .... this is 'Cafe SETI' , ....where it's said you can, ..."Trade stories with other SETI@home users...." The SCIENCE forum is here...... A single thread on Politics was started to cover the subject. You decided to start numerous others just to gain attention. Call it what you want,cw. It's ok to start a thread, ..one does not need your 'permission', .... and, you don't have to like the subject..... In a world where people read about and people watch events unfolding why I don't feel the need to go into the exacting detail you feel you must post. It's all in the details, cw, ...... and the details are frequently obscure.... sometimes those details in any given story aren't revealed until much later, ..after the headlines have been forgotten. Sometimes those details are not pretty... Sometimes people don't wish to be bothered with the details... I was taught as a Paramedic is a procedure was not documented it was not done. I agree the reason we went to war was wrong. We know it wasn't from a lack of good intelligence... we know who doctored the reports.... the Office of Special Plans was outside of the normal intelligence controls... and we know who promoted what was given as reasons for going to war, ....we know who instigated, on false premises, invading a sovereign country and occupying said country. So, ....is that acceptable? Shouldn't those folks be held to account? What actions should we take to make sure that doesn't happen again? I do not beleive the expected goal to be wrong. The 'expected' goal has variously been offered to be a number of differing achievements. That seems to have changed to suit the political climate.... (polling figures show that 'terra' and 'makin us safer' aren't being received too well by the folks in Iowa anymore..... doh, ...change the goal to 'freedom', ....that should 'sell' em,...) not that any of the stated goals are necessarily what the 'expected' goal really is..... We sure don't intend to allow them any kind of total autonomy or self-determination.... We 'intend' to shape them in our 'image' and control their 'freedom' to suit our needs. So what do you think the 'expected' goal is? I do not feel our continued presence in Iraq is oppressive. Vast numbers of Iraqis would beg to differ.... according to the polls in that country, they do think the US and the 'coalition' are oppressing them. As long as there are Religious Zealots toting the word of God as a means to oppress then must be stopped. Regardless of the religion, or the location. Wasn't there a religious zealot, claiming to be 'chosen' by god, to wage war on the 'evildoer's'? Aren't there religious zealots claiming that Muslims are worshipping a false God? Our 'God' is better than their 'God'? Can't have those Iraqis choosing what they want, now can we, cw? Self-determination?.... nah, .... that's not freedom.... They are only to be 'free' to choose what we deem suitable for them, eh? Though the initial reasons for going to War with Iraq were based on mis-representations of the facts it does not warrant an immediate withdrawal from the region. If we withdraw now then Saddam will be replaced by a Shite Cleric who has proven he can be worse. Calls for an immediate withdrawal come from all over.... but what does that mean? An orderly stand down from action and the removal of all troops according to a set timeline? A headlong rush to the airport? There is no plan for a withdrawal of our forces... we are constructing permanent bases in Iraq. We have no intention of leaving... (though, I'm sure there is great concern in more than one camp over how many of our troops are tied up there and all sides agree we need better protection if another 'blow-up' occurs elsewhere, the chances of any kind of substantial troop withdrawal in the foreseeable future is slim.... plans for any continued flexing of our military might have been put on hold for the time being....) Why did you bring it up? Got an opinion? Have a suggestion? Recruitment is spiralling down... it's likely that a draft is the only option left to bolster overall troop numbers.... What do you think? We can't allow them to do as they wish, so we have to keep up force numbers to enforce our 'rule'...... what's to be done other than just more of the same? It's 'stay the course', isn't, cw? My inference is based on the fact that you have infered that the Republican in office have lied. No, cw, ....I didn't 'infer' that...... I stated that. I've supplied links to the information which shows precisley that. That's not 'inference'. I felt no need to 'infer' something that is widely held public knowledge. I wanted to know if you felt that the Democrats in office were truthful.. Some are, some aren't..... even when they do lie, it doesn't justify lies from their opposition, so, what's the point? .......or do you think that makes everything ok? That kind of thing is only pertinent to your desire to discredit me in some way, it doesn't change what's known. OK the CIA feeds GW false "cherry picked" information and GW is lying. The CIA provided information which did not support the lies.... the CIA reports discounted the 'yellow cake' Niger falsified reports.... the CIA reports did not support the contention that Saddam posed an 'immediate' threat..... GW lied, but it was not because the CIA did not provide comprehensive intelligence..... Did you somehow forget that George Tenant was sacked? And then given our nation's highest medal?.... The CIA was set up to take the fall and save face for GW. Did you miss that revelation when it's been demonstrated in the various investigations into the lead up to war? Was that 'old news' that you chose not to look into? The Office of Special Plans cherry picked information, Cheney, and some others controlled what was released and tailored the info to suit. It wasn't the CIA who 'got it wrong'..... their reports were sidelined by Feith and co. to smooth the way for deception. Other agencies lie to Carter and his efforts were blocked. I think I got my answer as to how you think about Democrats versus Republicans. You see what you want to see. I didn't say Carter was lied to. I said the American people were lied to. Recent documents show that Reagan administration personnel were negotiating for a delay of the release of the hostages..... contrary to the denials of the time. (more 'old news' you may have deigned not to view, cw) That was the manner I referred to in which Carter's hostage efforts were thwarted.... So far the only fabricated sensationism I see is from your "highly reliable sources". I forget, if you don't see it..... it couldn't have happened. The information contained in the memo was not refuted or denied by the British government..... are they the highly unreliable sources you refer to? Might I add that I have not seen you comment on the retraction made by the Newsweek reporter who has publicy stated that his article was based on information reported by unreliable sources. You might add that....... it's irrelevant to the discussion, but you can add that. It wasn't a terribly long and involved comment, but comment I did. That you missed it doesn't bother me. Newsweek was not the only source for stories about the desecration of the Koran or our use of religious humiliation as a technique for subjugation. Red Cross reports, Amnesty International reports, military reports.... all have reported the same. Newsweek was guilty of claiming a specific report, not yet released, had additional claims of desecration of the Koran. While they retracted the 'source' for the information, they did not claim that they could prove desecration has not occured. As to unreliable sources? Happens all the time..... Chalabi, 'curveball', yellow cake uranium from Niger..... I hear no equally great indignant uproar about the unreliable sources used by our own government..... just some wildly indignant harrumphing about a news magazine jumping the gun.... on the other side of the coin, .......the silence is deafening.
