What if the civilizations out there are Exactly as advanced as we are, and developed their Tech the same way we did. They started transmitting signals at the same time and of the same type. Wouldn't both signals reach eachother at a time when we no longer monitor those Freqs??? Who's still listening for Morse code? Especially, when their Morse code reaches us,say 50 years from now? |

Some might have gotten more advanced than radiowaves and even disappear before the waves gets to earth. Some may not get to the technological stage where they have radiowaves until millenia from now (assuming intelligent species don't always advance at the same speed). And we're actually not searching for a signal ment for us specifically, but any signal - and that would most likely be a signal ment for themselves (as would our signals detected by extraterristrial civilizations be intended for ourselves). So, we're searching for a signal from civs that were at approx. our stage of tech. when the signal was sent - which would be a very hard thing to do as the universe is huge and we only search a very very small part of it at any given time. Such a signal could reach earth right now and we wouldn't know about it as we may be looking at a totally different part of the sky.

If Cogent has a UFO issue, we can stop looking, can't we? ;) But I agree with Matt on this one, there are some stupid abbreviations in computer country. Especially if you have a search for ET and the ISP finds its UFO... ;) |

(edited for the fun ;)) </blockquote> We are closer today than yesterday...we have more of the sky covered and a few less places to look using the current process. Are there other processes that can be done on the current sky? YES. Will they be done in the future? YES. This is all assuming that ET WILL be found eventually! Even if we are using the wrong process we are eliminating ways of looking by way of finding nothing.
