You don't understand... your htaccess file is apparently not set up to block bad referrers from linking to your images. What *are* you blocking, exactly? What you want to do is use mod_rewrite to block image referrers that aren't from your domain. A similar example can be seen here. Season to taste.

The snippets of Apache configuration I've seen thus far are incomplete. Do two things for me:

- Show me *all* your mod_rewrite rules from your .htaccess file as they apply to this situation.
- Show me snippets from your apache logs of the offending hotlinks.

We can come up with a solution to your problem, I'm sure, that will carry over in case anybody else, anywhere else, decides to start hotlinking your images.

I can't just willy nilly remove accounts. It has to go up the chain. So far, there's only been one account locked out that had any credit granted to it.

That's only half the story... what are your logs listing for referers? I'll bet you a good sum of money you don't have any that include the string http://www.berkeley.edu/.

You might check and see if negative matching would work...

...or just specify the actual domain listed as the referer in the log files, as you should have done in the first place. Hint: These boards aren't available from http://www.berkeley.edu/.

You are wrong. Sorry. I professionally administer things such as Apache; I know what I am talking about.

It can be done. It would be done if you would have followed my instructions. Look at your log files, look at the referer, and match the regex for your mod_rewrite rules. I don't spout off solutions to problems to waste your time.

Uhh... not a dime. Everything related to Boinc I do is completely volunteer. That's why my little tag says "Volunteer developer" instead of "Developer" or "Project Administrator." :-)
