You don't understand... your htaccess file is apparently not set up to block bad referrers from linking to your images. What *are* you blocking, exactly? What you want to do is use mod_rewrite to block image referrers that aren't from your domain. A similar example can be seen here. Season to taste. > The only solution I see is banning or editing the imposter's account and > removing his posts which must be done on the Boinc side of the issue. That's not a simple thing to do... can you show me where it's such a problem, though? Rob |

> Sigh.....do you realize that a generic reply will not stop an anonymous > proxy I'm not so sure. > They are designed specifically to work around filters. How... do they spoof the HTTP Referrer header? I doubt it. How else could they get around it? > And if you don't understand how an imposter utilizing my old nick and > hotlinking my images is a "problem" then no explaination will be good enough > for you. I don't even know what imposter you're talking about. I hate to dissapoint you, but I'm doing several other things in my free time. I don't spend it all watching the little soap opera we have unfolding here. > Just so you know I tried your response even though I tried it SEVERAL hours > ago already > > RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://www.anonymouse.ws/ [NC] > RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://www.berkeley.edu/ [NC] The snippets of Apache configuration I've seen thus far are incomplete. Do two things for me: - Show me *all* your mod_rewrite rules from your .htaccess file as they apply to this situation. - Show me snippets from your apache logs of the offending hotlinks. We can come up with a solution to your problem, I'm sure, that will carry over in case anybody else, anywhere else, decides to start hotlinking your images. Rob |

I can't just willy nilly remove accounts. It has to go up the chain. So far, there's only been one account locked out that had any credit granted to it. > RewriteEngine on > > RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://anonymouse.ws/ [NC] > RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://www.berkeley.edu/ [NC] > RewriteRule .*.jpg$ - [F] That's only half the story... what are your logs listing for referers? I'll bet you a good sum of money you don't have any that include the string http://www.berkeley.edu/. You might check and see if negative matching would work... RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !brainsmashr.com [NC] RewriteRule .*.jpg$ - [F] ...or just specify the actual domain listed as the referer in the log files, as you should have done in the first place. Hint: These boards aren't available from http://www.berkeley.edu/. Rob |

Oh sure you bitch and moan about removing and editing accounts yet you have several and complained vulgarly when it was finally done to you (and rightfully so.) Sounds more like you can't take what you dish out. Let's see what hypocracy we have here: 305369 - Anonymous 712168 - MegaByte2001 1359243 - BrainSmashR 1935820 - Megabyte2001 8087036 - SetiKnight |

Hey Celtic dumba**, if you look around you will see that was > tried FIRST and the example is posted on the other thread. Since I know > educating yourself would be a stretch: This one I read because I wanted to see if you actually got a clue.. As I know that educating yourself is impossible I'll tell you "The Clue" was that www.berkely.edu is NOT the referrer address you should have blocked. A blind monkey would have known that.. Again this is what you get from someone who pays to host his site and a real Webmaster... Now that you have it right - GO AWAY.. I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. > I've already told you dumba** that only 2 of those listed are me. I've even > provided my real name. Only a liberal piece of garbage like yourself feels > the need to hide/LIE about their identity. Speaking of LIES let's look at how everything links up... (You can go thru the posts as confirmation also.) 0305369 = Your acct that got moderated for username vulgarity, matches your old Classic acct, old/same creation date. 0712168 = The current one you're trolling on, old creation date. 1359243 = Your current catalyst for your trolling, old creation date. 1935820 = Matches up with another old Classic acct of yours, old/same creation date. 8087036 = Context and vulgarity of posts just like you directed at the anti-BSR crowd (and Rob), recent creation date. Yep. I'd say that just about wraps things up. |

That's the whole problem with these Shunned Trolls... they never really go away and in this case he even tells us that he most likely will be back...

I'll have a double espresso and croisant, thank you. Since we're on the topic of multiple accounts, is there any way to merge two accounts? [waiter arrives] Thanks... now where's the smoking section? Can't have caffeine without nicotine... |

> Dude, I have been trying this for the last 5 hours. It simply cannot be done > through htaccess, but don't listen to me, just keep on quoting crap I already > know won't work. You are wrong. Sorry. I professionally administer things such as Apache; I know what I am talking about. It can be done. It would be done if you would have followed my instructions. Look at your log files, look at the referer, and match the regex for your mod_rewrite rules. I don't spout off solutions to problems to waste your time. If you still can't figure it out, please contact me privately and I can do it for you at a reduced rate. I'll give you a substantial break and charge you $65/hr with a minimum one hour billed. Rob |

Everything related to Boinc I do is completely volunteer. That's why my little tag says "Volunteer developer" instead of "Developer" or "Project Administrator." :-) I don't work for Berkeley and I don't represent them... it's just little ol' me, workin' for free. :-) Rob |
