Does BOINC still run If I put my computer in hibernate mode, I am running windows xp sp2.

I don't think so. If I remember correctly hibernate makes a disk image of memory and basically shuts down. I don't use it myself so I'm not sure.

JKeck is right, hibernate saves a memory dump to the harddisk and powers down, just like 'normal' shutdown.
So: No CPU running, no work done.
