I've got my desktop set to not run when on batteries, and everything still keeps chugging along when the UPS switches over to it's batteries (Opti).

Check your computer's power management settings- go for the Always on option.

During a couple of lightning strikes my ups switched to batteries momentarily. My preferences say to run on batteries even though it only applies to laptops. Boinc kept everything suspended until i clicked on the old alert and it went away.
