Keep trying. It's possible the server is overwhelmed by requests, or that you just need some patience. It'll get there in the end.

Try to quit the client and restarting it. That sometimes helps as well.

I'm now getting an error message trying to join a project that "server has software problem" Anyone know what the devil is up with this??? It's aggravating to try and get going on the new client and get that error... Yesterday it was down all day for "maintenance." I wish they wouldn't announce that it was up and ready to go until it was REALLY up and ready to go!

All my BIONIC mahines do that as well, every now and again they can connect and get a couple of WU's, but thats about it. Most of the time they just sit there idle.

I agree, they know how many people use SAH1, and so should really have anticipated a similar number using SAH2... I would have thought!

I think BIONIC has been released as ready far too early if they haven't got the IT infrastructure set up properly; and since the service seems to be going up and down like a yoyo, I assume they haven't.

Darnit, it's NOT "BIONIC"!!!

It's "BOINC": Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing.

It's spelled correctly all over the webpages and on the client
itself.

You're not the only one unable to read correctly, though.
The only reason I replied to yours was that I reached my
personal threshold on reading bad spelling early today.

You know i get the same thing. Did the install last week and it looks to just sitting there more then its doing any thing. All most all of to day has been that way.

When it is working. The speed looks good. But it has a real problem getting new work units. This is not looking good.

Got 3 computer running 24/7 and normal get at least 10 units per computer. over last 3 days got 15 for all of them.

got this message a few times:
"Message from server: No work available"
And:
"No work for project"
or
"No schedulers responding"

News

Sorry folks, we ran into a cascade failure, our database server hung and had to be forced to terminate before it could be used again, which then required several hours to check all the tables and indexes, after that issue was resolved we ran into problems with our Network Attached Storage device. Additional fixes may occur throughout

ok now i feal dumb. Not like thats a first. LOL

can't the bionc client be configured to get more than one work unit at a time ?
or is it that seti is so popular that there are more cpus to crunch the numbers than the input units

Setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu is the wrong URL. The URL has been changed to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/. You will either have to edit your XML files, or detach/attach. There are instructions on how to edit the XML files elsewhere on the board.

I have the same problem. I set client to retrieve 2-7 days worth of work due to the offline time I have and now the client has no work, mentioning something about Project not running. Is this the prementioned need-to-edit-xml-file bug ?

There is nothing wrong at your side but unfortunately nothing you can do also.
For the moment, there are server problems in Berkeley. That is why you have the message.

Unfortunately you will need to wait until people in Berkeley resolve the server problem.

Greetings from Belgium.

Have been running Setiathome for several years, so downloaded and installed BOINC for the first time yesterday 3rd August'04.
BOINC has been trying to download ever since and now over 24 hours later still has nothing to work on. Cab't find any info as to whether the servers have a problem or not.

Am only running the SETI URL and have logged on successfully. So whats the problem please?

News on the front page:

September 3, 2004
The SnapApp folks were here for most of the afternoon. They replaced the processors with ones that are faster and have larger caches. More importantly, we talked about how to stabilize the system. The plan is to simplify both the HW and service mix as much as possible in the hopes of removing the variable that is causing the hangs (and of course they will be going for the root cause at their lab). We altered the startup so that a bare minimal set of services are running. And we are going to only use the 18000 head unit for now, keeping no data on the sd30 expansion. This means moving some data around. We first have to move the upload/download data to a temporary volume on the sd30, then reconfigure the space on the 18000 head, then move the uldl to the head. The move to the temp volume is happening now. Tomorrow morning we will do the reconfiguration and start final move. With luck we will have the project up by EOD tomorrow.

They are moving data around. This means: Server down

Yep, just set your preferences so that you've got enough to last you for 1, 2, 5 or 14 days (or whatever suits you).

Click on the projects tab in the BOINC client and click on the project you wish to download.
Now click on the file menu and you should see (try now) or was it (try again)
anyway when I did this it started to download the work units. It looks like this item in the file menu only shows when you have no work units downloaded.
Once I downloaded the work units this item in the file menu did not display.

I'm running climateprediction and seti
But once seti started to compute the climateprediction was "preempted" and was paused. I think this is because the seti "report deadline" is much sooner than the climateprediction.

I thought that we could run two projects at once ??
Perhaps someone else could come in on this one ?
