Seems odd.
We've been running v4.10 in alpha since late Feb and this is the first report of this nature that I've seen. It's possible that the v4.10 released to public is not the same as the one that we've been testing, but hopefully this is not the case.

@Digger
You can report bugs here, like you have done, but there's also a separate bug reporting area located here.

I haven't done a search there yet, but at first glance I don't see that this particular problem has been reported yet. (Well not with SAH v4.10 anyways.)

I'm away from my boxes, so I haven't personally tried the new version and can't confirm the problem.

Could someone that has first-hand experience of the bug please search the bug reports and if you don't see a report regarding this problem, please open one?

Please report as much detail about your setup as possible, to help the devs track down the problem and also post a link back to this thread in the report. Once that has been done, please update this thread with a reference to the bug report number.

TIA

[edit]
OK, I created a bug report number 181 "show graphics" causes application computation error

Please post follow ups and as much details on the bug at the report there (and here too if you wish).

Actually, that is exactly what I am talking about. The SETI project changed their WU's to use 4.10 (totally out of my control), so they should be able to change new WU's to go back to 4.09 (assuming that I'm not in the minority and alot of others have problems with 4.10). I'm sorry if I confused my explaination by mentioning BOINC 4.25 - it was only to mention that I was NOT going to make any changes to it (as you said, it's different software).

Thierry, i'm pretty sure Greg is speaking of wanting to return to SETI Version 4.09, which unfortunately cannot be done. I don't think he is saying that the issue is with the BOINC software. We've both been using BOINC 4.25 and SETI 4.09 without problems. Like him, i did not have a graphics issue until Version 4.10 was downloaded yesterday... but hopefully the folks in Berkeley will get it straightened out in short order. :)

I think you mix things. BOINC is in release 4.25. If you want to go back to an earlier version (ie 4.19), you can. If you talk about the version of the application (Seti 4.10), you can't go back because it is installed automatically with the first WU which has the new appliaction

What the ... ! I never had a "graphics" problem until a 4.10 WU, and I HAVE an ATI card! Now I get nothing from either the 4.25 manager "show graphics" or from the screen saver preview. And I guess I'm even easier amused than Digger, 'cause I thought the screen saver was pretty cool - and actually used significantly less CPU than the "classic" version. Tried rebooting, but absolutely nothing, no error msg, nothing. Not going to mess with reinstaling BOINC 4.25 - to many times have already caused enough problems. Anybody have an idea what it would take to get them to back off to 4.09 and REALLY fix this thing right ?

Hiya Thierry!

Yeah, i know what you mean about the graphics. I don't normally run them at all, except to occasionally hit the "show graphics" button just to view them for my pleasure. (I'm easily pleased). LOL.

When the client error occured on my first 4.10 unit, i got a bit suspicious and decided to duplicate it several times just to be sure. I hope this doesn't mean we're going to be seeing a ton of client errors with SETI this weekend. Yikes! I look forward to seeing if you have the same problem. Perhaps the issue is localized to just a few specific graphics cards.

Happy crunching. :)

Thierry is correct.

The update downloads on its own, and the old version removes itself when no longer needed (i.e. you have finished all of your 4.09 work units). At least that's how it worked on my machine. I can confirm that there is a graphics problem on 4.10 and i have posted the bug in the Crunchers forum as well.

Again, not a complaint, i just don't know where to report bugs here. :)

The bug i am experiencing results in a Client Error on any 4.10 work unit when graphics are displayed by clicking "show graphics" in BOINC Manager. I have had three thus far which i can pinpoint to the graphics problem (the work unit did not error out until the moment the graphics displayed). My current work unit is processing fine, as long as i don't display the graphics:

I have onboard Intel video, not ATI.

Hope this helps. :)

As far as I know you can't. It's not a BOINC version, it's linked to the WU.

Maybe go back to the older version that did work?

According to the homepage:

"We have released version 4.10 of the setiathome application for windows. This release contains a bug fix that should resolve around a third of the instances of graphics not displaying. Because all clients will be downloading the new application, data service will be slow for a while. "

I never had a problem with the graphics in the past, but guess what? Since I now have 4.10 the graphics will not display at all.

Yep... Ya gotta love updates. They fixed that problem so good that I just can't wait for 4.11, 4.12, 4.13 ... 999.99

Enough of my rant. Is there anything that I could do on my end to fix. I've tryed rebooting and a fresh install of BOINC, just in case.
