You will be assimilated...bunghole!

> Maybe we need to add to the guide lines.........show respect to fellow > members!!! And the first place it should be required is for people to show respect to others that have been there before, ala "seniors". I'm sure you understand this very well. When you went to High School, if you acted like this to the upperclassmen, I'm sure there would've been someone to set you straight. Acting haughty and rude like this only helps make you look like an ass. > To Borgholio...........Grow up....you do not know me and I do not need to read > this crap.......brain fart. Borgholio has a way with people, I'll admit, but he also contributes greatly to the discussion of how BOINC/SETI runs and what happens with the crunching of data. Telling someone who's been crunching and doing the work in the trenches only shows your naivete more, not to mention making him seem all the more right in telling you to stop whining and shut up. > To all you fellow members who are reading this.........I have no idea who is > or is not doing there job, but the last time i checked, the USA was not a > third world nation. Hello, is there no qualified > electrical person out there? Could you please point out where it shows that the SETI staff have a skilled and qualified Electrician on-staff? I'm sure that this person is right there with the crack marketing department, just raring to go. Don't mind that the SSI building was built back in the 1960s when such power demands and technology wasn't even envisioned in Buck Rogers. Don't mind that the internet connection problem was with an outside supplier and they had no control over them. Don't mind that there simply isn't enough money to even pay the "Staff" to come in 5 days a week. Also neglect the fact that they actually FOUND and FIXED one major problem, tracked down 2 more problems, and are currently dealing with it. I'm not saying your whining and myopic view is wrong, necessarily. I'm just saying that there's a bigger picture here and once you come off the mountain and open your eyes, you'll see that there are people who are bigger than you. Do us all a favor and really sit down, shut up, and read. |

"The Seti team doesn't know what they're doing, everything's their fault, they should have been able to predict the future, blah blah blah." You, sir, need to sit down and shut up, unless you can do any better. > > To all you fellow members who are reading this.........I have no idea who is > or is not doing there job, but the last time i checked, the USA was not a > third world nation. Hello, is there no qualified > electrical person out there? > What are you incapable of reading English, or are you just stupid? I don't know, but I could have sworn an electrician just did a major diagnostic on the wiring of the building, fixed a problem, and diagnosed a few other problems that need to be fixed as well. Does that not qualify as "something being done"? You will be assimilated...bunghole!

> Gee some of you are touchy. Damn straight we are. Most LEGITIMATE Seti crunchers know that accidents happen, and that the Seti staff is doing the best we can. We don't criticize them when things happen that are out of their control, and we don't blame them when it's not their fault. Furthermore, we're sick and tired of listening to crybabies who are looking for ANY excuse to try and make themselves look superior. > > I just think that it is vary strange that in this day and age we can not get a > reliable power supply. This has been going on for months now, have you never > hard of power back ups! Actually they DID have backups. They just didn't have the additional hardware to enable graceful shutdowns. Read the tech news before you start complaining. > > And as to those who think I should help?!? "Rather than being a whiny little > bitch, why don't you chip in and help?" > Sorry i'm not in the power industry. Oh but it seems as though you are. You seem to know so much about the wiring in the SSL building, that you believe it's easily fixable. > > Get real and fix the problem.....gee this is not new technoligy. > I repeat, rather than whining, why don't you chip in and help? Or better yet, why don't you explain how the Seti staff should be held responsible for building-wide power AND off-campus internet access? And don't give me any crap about the UPS units. If you're as computer literate as you claim to be, you would know that a UPS unit can only keep a server online for a few minutes. You will be assimilated...bunghole!

Gee some of you are touchy. I just think that it is vary strange that in this day and age we can not get a reliable power supply. This has been going on for months now, have you never hard of power back ups! And as to those who think I should help?!? "Rather than being a whiny little bitch, why don't you chip in and help?" Sorry i'm not in the power industry. Get real and fix the problem.....gee this is not new technoligy. |

Logs for Classic SETI@H Check this out lololol June 4, 1999 We learned that the SETI@home server has been repeatedly issuing the same 115 work units for the last few days. This was fixed immediately, and we put a notice on the web site. We're back to issuing our existing 31,415 work units. The problem was due to a subtle operating system bug, but we feel bad that we didn't catch it sooner. June 1, 1999 Sun Microsystems has offered a substantial donation of new hardware: 4 workstations, 4 DLT drives, a large amount of disk storage, and a 450 4-CPU Enterprise Server. The workstations and tape drives are schedule to arrive 6/15, and the 450 is slated for end of June. May 29, 1999 The receiver front end at Arecibo is not working; engineers are working to fix. Fortunately we still have a large backlog of tapes starting from December 1998. May 28, 1999 Quantum has donated about 360 GB of disk drives. May 27, 1999 To address performance problems, we have changed the way our server works. Before, when a user requests a work unit, the SETI@home server queried the database server to find the best work unit to send, and it updated the "# work units sent" field of the user, their country, their team, etc. This was overloading the database. In our new scheme, the SETI@home server avoids using the database as much as possible. It generates "flat files" that record work units sent and results received. An off-line program processes these files and updates the accounting records in our database. As a result of this "delayed accounting", users won't see credit for their results immediately on the web site or in their screensaver. There will a delay, depending on how far behind the off-line processing gets. We changed the word "Team" to "Group" on the web site because the SETI Institute has a fundraising program called "Team SETI", and there was concern about confusion. May 25, 1999 Our fix to the team mechanism has ANOTHER loophole. We changed the mechanism again (this time for sure??). We didn't zero out group membership this time. May 24, 1999 Our Team mechanism has a problem: it's possible to add any user to your team. Some teams have used this loophole to "hijack" users with lots of CPU time. We fixed this (we thought) and emptied out all teams. May 23, 1999 We added the "Team" mechanism. May 22, 1999 Because of the unexpectedly large number of users, our server has become overloaded. Clients are unable to connect and get error messages. We're getting thousands of email messages every day about this. To reduce the CPU load on WS3 we have temporarily stopped running the Splitter. We have 31,415 work units on disk right now, and we'll issue these until we can start generating new ones. Semper Eadem So long Paul, it has been a hell of a ride. Park your ego's, fire up the computers, Science YES, Credits No. |

The system is up and running with me fine since Oct. 2004. rant mode on It all started, when these bunch of oldtimers came over and ran havoc. When will they learn to handle a decent computer! rant mode off This last two outages where done by people/systems off the seti crowd. Facility management has delivered lousy power supply, and Cognet lousy ISP - service. Unfortunately at a very bad time, as lot's of classic crunchers came over now. I suppose Classic never had outages, never ever was buggy, and always run without problems to whoever. Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |
