he participated , along with thousand of other people , from all over the World , in The Great Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 , on the Klondike River ,
Yukon territories , Canada. ---- In 1898
Ketchikan --- Juneau ---- Skagway .... the fishing is Great ... this was back in the 1950's ......
... when I was a small boy ...
My Dad had many American friends who were in the Commercial fishing and Logging business along the .... Alaska Panhandle
and we always used to get invites from our American friends ... to spent the summers along the ...... Beautiful .... Alaska Panhandle fishing and hiking
.. these ... were some of happiest times of Life ..... I dream about going back some day to visit my old friends on .... the Alaska Panhandle ...
Paul you've got to come back and Visit us along the East coast of Vancouver Island ..... fishing is still Great over there ..
I also long to go back and visit the East Coast of Vancouver Island some day ......... aha well ...

yeah, byron, those grandfather tales bring back memories of my own grandfather's recollections of the Columbia river at the turn of the century.

Still have some pictures, (very faded), of his seine fishing with horses from the beach at the mouth of the Columbia.

What we might mistake for cordwood was 80 and 90 pound average kings stacked like logs on the beach. (that all went away after the many dams were built on the Columbia, though I do understand that, though the size is smaller, the king runs are recovering there quite well.

Never did fish the east side of the island. Always offshore in the big water.

Being an American, on an obviously American boat, we were not welcomed by your countrymen at the time. So we never ventured in too far towards shore, we followed the fish up the outside of the island almost to the northern end and then always turned and ran to deliver back in the States.

Someday I hope to try some of the lodge fishing along the Canadian coast and I hear in the inside of the island there are some very large octopus. I like octopus...

Now I've got an itch to go fishing right now, I'm going to have to plan my next outing, .......like, ......maybe tomorrow......

later byron...

Went out about a month ago to the Port of Sacramento (California, USA for those of you in other parts of the world). Caught a 65 inch sturgeon. That was fun!

mmmmmmm, sturgeon...

bill,

Do they have slot limit size restrictions there? Was that fish able to be eaten or was it outside the caps?

We have no sturgeon here, but I did used to fish them in the Columbia, between Oregon and Washington.

I haven't fished in a while now. when I did I liked fly fishing. even more so I liked tying my own flies.
on the last fishing trip I took. Me and my ex-stepdad caught 29 mud-cats and one blue cat at Philpot dam in VA. I'll see if I can dig up the pics.

Paul, In California sturgeon must be at least 46 inches long but no more than 72 inches long. And yes, the fish was edible. If it's prepared correctly it doesn't even taste like fish...it tastes like chicken (and how cliche is THAT!?).

Kip Addotta
"Wet Dream"

It was April the 41st, being a quadruple leap year,
I was driving in downtown Atlantis
My Barracuda was in the shop, so I was in a rented Stingray,
and it was overheating.
So I pulled into a Shell station, they said I'd blown a Seal.
I said,"Fix the damn thing and leave my private life out of it OK Pal?
While they were doing that I walked over to a place called the Oyster bar;
a real dive. But I knew the owner, he used to play for the Dolphins.
I said, "Hi Gil" You have to yell, he's hard of Herring.

(Chorus:)
I had a Wet Dream, cruisin' through the Gulf Stream,
Oooh, ooh, ooh, ooh... Wet Dream...

Gil was also down on his luck,
fact is he was barely keeping his head below water.
I Bellied up to the Sand bar, he poured the usual-
Rusty Snail, hold the Grunion, shaken, not stirred, with a peanutbutter
and Jellyfish sandwich on the side, heavy on the Mako.
I slipped him a Fin, on Porpoise, I was feelin' good.
I even dropped a Sand-Dollar in the box for Jerry's Squids,
For the halibut.
Well, the place was crowded, we were packed in like Sardines.
They were all there to listen to the big band sounds of Tommy Dorsel
What Sole!
Tommy was rockin' the place with a very popular Tuna -
"Salmon chanted evening".
And the stage was surrounded by screaming Groupers,
probably there to see the Bass player.
One of them, was this cute little Yellowtail,
and she was giving me the eye.
So I figured this is my chance for a little fun, you know...
Piece of pisces.
but she said things I just couldn't Fathom. She was too deep.
Seemed to be under a lot of Pressure. Boy could she drink
She drank like a... she drank a lot!
I said, "What's your sign" She said, "Aquarium".
I said," Great! Let's get Tanked!"

I invited her up to my place for a little midnight Bait.
I said,"C'mon baby, it'll only take a few Minnows...".
She threw me that same old line, "Not tonight, I got a Haddock"
And she wasn't kiddin' either, cause in came the biggest meanest
looking Haddock I'd ever seen come down the pike.
He was covered with Muscles. He came over to me, he said,"Listen
Shrimp, don't you come Trollin' around here." What a Crab.
This guy was steamed. I could see the Anchor in his eyes.
I turned to him I said," Aboloney! You're just being shellfish!"
Well, I knew there was going to be trouble and so did Gil cause
he was already on the phone to the Cods.
The Haddock hits me with a Sucker punch. I catch him with a left hook
He Eels over. It was a Fluke, but there he was lying on the Deck,
flat as a Mackrel, Kelpless.
I said,"Forget the Cods, Gil. This guy's gonna need a Sturgeon."
Well, the Yellowtail was impressed with the way I Landed her boyfriend.
She came over to me she said, "Hey, big boy, you're really a game fish.
What's your name?" I said,"Marlin"

Well, from then on we had a whale of a time. I took her to dinner. I
took her to dance. I bought her a bouquet of Flounders.
And then I went home with her. And what did I get for my troubles?
A case of the Clams.

(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay
by Otis Redding and Steve Cropper

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay
'Cause I've had nothing to live for
And look like nothin's gonna come my way

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time
