It seems like they don't even know the system never actually came back up properly yesterday. :(

Be lucky

The data server failed around 20:30 UTC for the third time in as many days. The project will be down as we continue to diagnose the problem.

wait until the upload is fixed, then wait and see when a few million results get returned all in one go.

LoL!

I bet we'll see some fluctuation with this stat for a bit. The new hardware does a great job though!

yes, but the problem is that still WUs are beeing send out and the validator doesn't have work at the moment, so at the point the upload works again there will be many many WUs to validate again.. hope not too much...

only 18 to go and the Validator will have no more work to do, until the UL problem is fixed anyway.

Message 80332 - Posted: 17 Feb 2005, 16:34:34 UTC - in response to Message 80315.

When a new "success"-result is reported, the Transitioner counts up how many "success"-results there are for this wu. If there's atleast 3 "success"-results, a flag need_validate is set, except for some error-conditions.

So, the status-page should be a count of how many is marked as need_validate, but not quite sure if it's wu or result-count...

As for the old stuck wu, these will probably not be taken care of before gets some free time...

I regularly see the "in progress" numbers change more frequently than the twenty minute page refresh interval.

Ready to send 427,878
In progress 1,873,120
Waiting for validation 3,626
Waiting to transition 0

Note: The numbers represented here are approximate either because they are quickly estimated by mysql (via explain) or they are derived from cron jobs that don't run as often as the job that generates this page.

I don't know why the gap changes by so much

EDIT I just checked it again and now it says
Ready to send 427,878
In progress 1,873,120
Waiting for validation 3,626

there is no way it this would be correct and the numbers change
only for in progress. 400,00 processed in two minutes...

There have been times the validator was at zero and those work units were there. I think those are the work units that were lost in one of the server crashes.

It's looking more and more like the Validator doesn't see the old Stuck WUs.

Here's why I think this is important.

Many people have complained about old WU's on their "Results" page that haven't been validated/credited. I myself have 14 WU's from the July/August 2004 time frame that are still pending credit. All my work from September to December have been validated and Deleted. These 14 are just hanging there. I wondered if Seti (or the servers looking at pending credit were counting these old WUs.

If the validate hits zero, or near zero, and these old WU are still there, then somehow these WUs are not being seen by the validator. This means I may not get credit for them without intervention by people (not software/hardware) at Seti.

It appears that the "Waiting for Validation" numbers are low enough now that I can say that these old WUs are not seen by the validator, and that people at Seti may need to get involved to clear them out. Either by deleting them (for no credit to me), by changing the software to see them, or by manually processing them. I don't like the Deleting them option, because maybe those WU contain the signal from ET.

The validator seems to be sticking at 7500, so maybe my premise is wrong, and there are only 7500 old stuck WU's and the Validator sees them, but for some reason can't process them. (hence, the Stuck WU).

keeping an eye on this number is important as I see it.

what do you think?
