Hi

Can anybody tell me where I can download a compiled version of the seti/boinc software for HP-UX? The software I'm looking is for a PA-RISC architecture and the machine is running HP-UX 11i v2. I know I can download the sourcecode and compile it myself, but I'm not exactly an expert at compiling stuff on my own on a HP-UX.

Regards

People still run HP-UX?? :-)

Seriously, I think the only way you'll get it working is if you compile it yourself. You'll probably need to install some GNU utilities on there if you don't have them already, as well.

Did you google?

All of the clients that I'm aware of are linked to in the downloads page of my site (see link in my sig). There's Solaris and SPARC64 clients, but I'm not aware of one for HP-UX. If you find one, please let me know and I'll link to it.

I have compiled HPUX Binaries for HPUX 11.x on PA RISC.
The testworkunit is running at the moment.
I think tomorow it will be available for download

IMHO we really need all those Ported Clients hosted in one spot...

If hosting is a Problem, I can create a quick&dirty Webpage and host all 3rd Party compiled Clients (BOINC + SETI) if needed.

I quite agree :)

I've tried to compile a list of clients available with links. I have the bandwidth, but not the space on my server (only 50MB available) to host.

Also, it would be nice if the folks at berkeley could at least provide some more links to 3rd party clients. Does anyone know where/how to submit links to?

Ned,

I am not sure they are going to be interested in that ... I recall a comment from Dr. Anderson back in Beta days saying that that was not going to happen.

If no one else signs up, I am sure I have the space, I just don't have the time, energy, and what ever to maintain much ... at least in the near term ...

Would it be possible that you would host the page and I the files (somehow)?

I am not sure I want to release any account information, but, dropping files into a place may work ... well ... think about it ...

You seem to have a very impressive computer network and this would be a very good idea.I downloaded the Irix-client from your site last week and was very happy about that. We need a site that collects all 3rd-party clients and this should not be restricted only to seti@home. Maybe that someone will be able to compile boinc-clients for einstein@home for Irix and HP-UX.

Hello !

David Anderson wrote in the boinc_dev mailinglist, that it is posible to link the site with compiled clients to the seti and boinc sites.

Is the source for einstein available ? - I have not seen it on the einstein site.

Not at this time as a collected entity ...

There was a post about this not too long ago ... it is not so much they don't want to share it, it is just hard to share it at this time because of the way it is built.

Whenever some one comes to the conclusion of how we want to do this, we should try to make it so anyone just about can do it... that means directions too ...

Lars,

I'm very interested in your BOINC compile for HPUX. I have several HPUX systems running classic seti, waiting to participate in BOINC.

If we don't get a place to post it, can we exchange emails via PM?

Is there a user-interface, or command-line only?

I also have access to an Itanium HPUX system, but have no experience compiling. Perhaps we could share & compare notes.

i am simply on a cable connection, i do not recall the u/l spped at the moment but should be currently 384k or higher (i work in the dsl industry and know that the southeast is already trialing 6M/1M and syncronized DSL is still being considered).

i would be happy to host files or act as a mirror. as there are already nice sites such as Ned's, just linking to the files would probably be better.
i can also include them in an ftp site as i know some of you may be running command-line only.

i wish i could contribute further, it's just that my unix skills have disappeared having not had much chance to use since 1994. and i have trouble getting it installed, much less compliling seti for it (as that is a requirement ;)

Sorry, but I have some problems with the reference_workunit :

After some testing of my binary I have the problems that the result.sah is 16 KB. The referenc_work_unit has 17208 Bytes.

If I make a diff between both files I see that in the reference_result.sah two gaussians reported, but only one gaussian from my client.
The rest of the result looks ok.

Is this OK ?

No, it's not. Are you trying to compile recent sources? If yes, see this post.

I have already some problems with the source. It compiles successfull, compute 2 two gaussians. But now, the client fails within the powercomputation.
So I will wait/hope for a patch.

Isn't here really no experienced programmer who can assist dotsch in the compiling job ? If it was possible for Irix, why isn't it possible for HP-UX ?

I have already a binary. But the problem for the power computation is in the source. The seti deveplovers know this problem, and will fix it.

Have you tested your client with the reference_workunit.sah ? - Are the results identical ?

But now, I am testing on a binary from old source. The results looks good.
The only difference are these four lines in my result.sah in the section :

max_spikes 0
max_gaussians 0
max_pulses 0
max_triplets 0

Is this OK/normal ?
