M. .. Why that cry for acknowledgement and perfection here? We're probably using the ex-server of Classic Account Creation, it'll be swallowed up by Seti proper once we're done. :) Or is it just that bs team of yours you want to have at the top? If it is, I, personally feel sorry for you and your team. All you are is credit sluts, number one wannabe's. And failing miserably most of the times. :( |

Does anyone here remember the interesting, literate, and informative threads that we used to have on the classic SETI boards? Since the BOINC boards started up it has been nothing but puerile crap and lame flame. Here we have a brand new board and a brand new opportunity to pretend that we have more than half a wit to our names. Just a thought. HELP IS JUST A CLICK AWAY |

@Ageless You really need to lighten up a bit mate. OK, so the subtleties of the English language have confused you as to the true intent of everything that I posted, but I would urge you to go back and read it all again and look in particular at the liberal use of smilies and in particular at the use of the word seriously which was supposed to give you a clue that everything posted before that was my attempt at irreverent humour. Here are some facts for your consideration. 1. I don't give a rats arse about the credits. 2. When you are in a large amorphous project like mainstream seti you never usually know or recognise any of the other members of your quorum. 3. In this brand new test project, you tend to see many well known names as part of your quorum. 4. Ric is the top participant in this project by a country mile. 5. Ric has been in a couple of my quora already. 6. Ric has just been seen posting in this thread not long before me. Do you get it yet???? Ric has a *lot* of boxes crunching for the cause and good luck to him. However one of his boxes didn't seem to be operating normally and that box was part of my quorum. So a perfect opportunity to have a very light-hearted dig at him, by pretending, with lots of smilies, to be having a go at him. If you can't see that because I have written it too poorly, then I apologise for offending you. However you should be apologising to the contributors of this project for your outrageous outburst which was totally uncalled for. What gives you the right to intervene in something that wasn't your business? Are you suddenly appointed as the "keeper of the morals" with the power to tell people to "go take a hike"? You have absolutely no right to dictate to others about whether or not they can have their computers hidden. When I first started reading what you had written I thought you were having a huge joke and I was about to congratulate you on giving me a big laugh. As I got to the end and then as i read the following posts I thought to myself, "Hang on a minute, maybe this guy is serious"??? I went looking for smilies but couldn't find any. Then you turn around and launch a very hateful attack on another poster. Maybe you're the one that needs to "take a hike" until you get your sense of perspective back. Actually go and have a chat with Nurse Rachette. She'll straighten you out and cure what ails you :). All jokes aside, please read again all that was posted and try to understand that it was all just light-hearted banter. After all this *is* the Cafe isn't it? Cheers, Gary. |

Well, the main Seti site is down, I wonder if that is what was required to fix the Number venue issue? |

While its one thing to make a play on words regarding a team's name it's another thing to deliberately insult a team and all its members. That's going way over the top! To this date your post is the only one I've ever seen doing that on any Bonc project site. I always thought that credit = work completed. And completed work leads to better science. But what do I know... END OF LINE |

One beauty of the "boinc" projects is, they have open 24 hours. Unfortunately this doesn't means, every project will offer "work" all the time and for everybody. Perhaps this will work in the field as it "should" one day, but this is not today:) New projects emerges, I think it's a "chance" to see how a project is stating up with all it's goods and bads. First, no forum here, now we have one. Work was "delivered" to the client, yes have seen the advise to reset wht I did for some clients. Even running a relatively small queue per project it happen some work is lost. At least until it's rescheduled. Those what I had to reset, have th edeadline mostly per 15th or 28th of this month. Well that's "beta" or "alpha"?, sorry confused by all the new items, which gave an other translation into my nativ language;) Anyway I hope to contribute more than just doing Work Units and adding numbers to the stats. Hope to return/feedback/test whatever it's needed to evolute the projects of boinc and give the dev people a modest help. Sorry for creating "nervousity", that was fully intended;) Due I really try to have not so much work per client, the clients can be told to "no more work from project xyz" and can be drained in hours from a project, to benefit more from an other project, right now offering work. I like to "support" smaller projects versus the "big ones", where everybody is walking in. LHC is drained. LHC alpha, scheduler not up, pirates (RIP *sniff*), burp is in a brake, the tragets for Einstein (200k), Seti(500k) and Predictor 100 k CS "targeds" are reached a long time ago. Now some new projects have seen the birth (in term allowing new public accounts). My first target from a project is to get work from from it:) Then the first 100 "credits" are on focus. Followed by the target of first 1000 and then first 10000. It looks like the last target has to be revised. That's also "boinc", perhaps next week obe of the favorite project will have some work, so the main crunch power will be turned to that project. It's nice to play with the settings of the clients (shares, xydebt) The really resulting numbers or "places", I don't care them much. The pleasure to run the boinc is much higher. Perhaps like the fisherman, getting finaly a small prey, which will give him a meal but the "process" of capturing, be in the nature, walking around is also taxed higher. Right now there are 21 hosts running. AMD and Intels:) The total queue for all host together is SETI 101 (seti@home and seti@this_one) and 89 for predictor. And 1 cpdn Unit;) That's the 2 project offing work what I am attached to. Oher projects are attached with no work or the "nomore work" is flaged. Not all are right now dedicated for boinc or running 24 Hours (it's summertime!!). Some of the clients are ony running on the cooler night hours It' happens, some "drained" clients (every asked work from a project is done and reported) that some of the clients will be detached from a project. Some of the clients are also doing projects ouside of boinc, seventeen or bust for example is looking for "primes", it takes about a week until it's finished. Later some of those clients are reput to boinc and the projet(s) are reattached. From time to time I have to merge the double entries to do a bid the menage. Some of the clients have mutliboot to windows2000 or XP this also generates additional database entries. Yes it happens to several people to have a lot of "computer", but finaly it's not reflecting the really amount of puter set to the project. For the totally it doesn't have an impact. Like the majority of you, only running boinc at home/private. Nearly all the cpus are self assembled and dedicated to run DC. Sorry for long posting, normaly reading more than writing (for non english skilled persons, it's a combat..) enjoy this ride and let's contribute to this project too and please, include the fun! |

Well that's "beta" or "alpha"?, sorry confused by all the new items, which gave an other translation into my native language. Typically an Alpha is a program (software suite, etc) that is undergoing in-house testing. Trying to discover and fix any bugs and errors in the program. Beta is when that program is released to the public. The public may use it voluntarilly. The program does not come with any warranty or guarantee that it will work properly. The developers hope that the public will report any and all errors and bugs so they may be fixed. From Wikipedia Pre-Alpha: Sometimes a build known as pre-alpha is issued, before the release of alpha or beta. In contrast to alpha and beta versions, the pre-alpha is usually not "feature complete"; that is, it is at the stage where designers are still wondering about what functionalities the product should have. Such builds can also be called development releases or nightly builds. Alpha: An alpha version or alpha release usually represents the first feature complete version of a computer program or other product, likely to be unstable but useful for demonstrating internally and to select customers. Some developers refer to this stage as a preview, as a technical preview or as an early access. Often, this stage begins when the developers announce a feature freeze on the product, indicating that no more features will be added to this version of the product, only bugs will be removed. Beta: The beta version of a product still awaits full debugging or full implementation of all its functionality, but satisfies a majority of the requirements. Beta versions (or just betas) stand at an intermediate step in the full development cycle. Developers release them to a group of beta testers (or, sometimes, to the general public) for a user test. The testers report any bugs that they found, features they would like to see in the final version, etc. When a beta becomes available to the general public it often becomes used almost as widely as the finished product (when developers subsequently complete that product). Usually developers of freeware or open-source betas release them to the general public while proprietary betas go to a relatively small group of testers. Recipients of highly proprietary betas may have to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Release candidate: The term release candidate can refer to a final product, ready to release unless fatal bugs emerge. In this stage, the product features all designed functionalities and no known showstopper class bugs. Microsoft Corporation often uses the term release candidate. Some users disparagingly refer to release candidates and even final "point oh" releases as "gamma test" software, suggesting that the developer has chosen to use its customers to test software that is not truly ready for general release. Gold/Release: The gold or release version of a product is the final version of a particular product. It is typically almost identical to the final release candidate, with only any last-minute bugs fixed. In commercial software releases, this version may also be signed (used to allow end-users to verify that code has not been modified since the release). The term gold anecdotally refers to the use of "gold master disks" which were used to send the final version to manufacturers (who use the gold master to create the mass-produced retail copies.) It may, in this context, be a hold-over from music production. Microsoft and others use the term "RTM" (Release to Manufacturing) to refer to this version (as in, "Build 2600 is the Windows XP RTM release"). me@rescam.org |
