Acutally, the guy who feeds the tapes just grabs the tapes at random. This was discussed in one of the many thousands of threads over on the SETI forums. Do a search over there for the post on how he picks out his tapes. |

Henri Part of what I have been trying to get to Eric was data on various Angle Ranges... So the Graphs that I posted was the most complete dataset... So if they have tapes that have information about "odd" AR's then those are actually needed here... Hi! Regards Pappa Thanks to Paul and Friends Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project |

Acutally, the guy who feeds the tapes just grabs the tapes at random. This was discussed in one of the many thousands of threads over on the SETI forums. Do a search over there for the post on how he picks out his tapes. I think that overstates the situation. The random selection is from a set of 40 or 50 which have been chosen for crunching. Much recent work was from 1999, because although it had previously been crunched in Classic, it was done with the early version which did only Gaussian and Spike searching with maximum chirp of 10 Hz/sec. Within the last month they also started the final data from the old recorder, consisting of 2005 and 2006 data. There was some initial hesitation in issuing that work, this post by Matt Lebofsky and other comments in the same thread explain further. Edit: In the main project, there are enough participants to crunch about one day's data in a day. That's two tapes. Here, there are so few crunchers that one tape could last more than a month. That makes the change to a different tape well worth noting. Joe |

So what? I have recently worked on wu's from 1999 The progress. Erveybody knows that we just cannot crunch 1999 WUs forever. People will leave this project if there is nothing new. 2005 WUs are something new! :-) ![]() ![]() Mars 2019 Petition <-- Sign, please. |

Hi, Pappa! Part of what I have been trying to get to Eric was data on various Angle Ranges... Hopefully, the new client (5.17) shows the true angle range so that one can see it on this site. For example, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/beta/result.php?resultid=881247. ![]() ![]() Mars 2019 Petition <-- Sign, please. |

The progress. Erveybody knows that we just cannot crunch 1999 WUs forever. People will leave this project if there is nothing new. 2005 WUs are something new! :-) My opinion is, as this is a beta test site, we shouldn't worry about the date of the tape's but are we getting the correct mix of data to test the application fully, and clear as many bugs as possible. To ensure the credit granted is as consistant as possible across the angle_range with respect to time. And that the credits are approx equal to that granted to all other projects. If we can help Eric and the other developers to achieve this then we will have done our bit and helped reduce the number of problem posts on the main site. So we need to process some of the new tapes. Some VLAR's of which we haven't had many but on my computer seem to take ages but for little credit. And possibly some more from the mid range (0.6 to 1.1 approx) where there is a dip in the graph. Andy |
