Phew am I knackered, what's that boss? Do my job and those of two people who didn't bother showing up? Sure, no problem. Mists of dreams drip along the nascent echo, and love no more. End of line. Bad news travels faster than the speed of light, good news never leaves the room. |

Sounds like you need some of your peach schnapps :-) I'm not sure getting tipsy on the job is a good idea. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |

Pre Christmas break win Wow, I wish my Christmas break started today. Unfortunately, I don't finish until Christmas Eve, so I then have a manic afternoon sorting the house and baking before the family descends on Christmas Day :-) |

Pre Christmas break win I'll be working Christmas eve as well :( However, I will be spreading Christmas joy throughout the workplace with the power of my Santa hat :) Mists of dreams drip along the nascent echo, and love no more. End of line. Bad news travels faster than the speed of light, good news never leaves the room. |

I would have expected today to be my last day before winter break (public school can't call it Christmas break). However, we are going to next Tuesday... which was not known to my boss when she and her family booked a nonrefundable vacation. We will have to struggle along without her -- her boss let her take the time off, but won't approve a sub for her. It's okay, though. It's finals, so not much going on for us. We can get some actual work done instead of watching the pesky kids. And since we go through Tuesday, we come back on Wednesday two weeks hence. Now, here's where it gets weird. The 25th is the last day of a two-week pay period. I will work the 21st and 22nd as normal. No pay for the 23rd. The 24th is Columbus Day. Christmas is a paid holiday. No pay for 28-30. 31 is Veterans Day. The 1st is a paid holiday. So the paycheck of 1/8 will be one day short and the one of 1/22 will be three days short. Just when most of us are trying to pay holiday credit card bills, of course. David signature sent back to alpha testing |

We can get some actual work done instead of watching the pesky kids. That is surprising news. In most organizations unless you work the day before and after a holiday it isn't paid, making Christmas and News Years unpaid! Oh, I do remember some odd Wednesday holiday breaks some years when I was in school. Of course the Pasadena schools had to be closed for a couple days after New Years to have the Tournament post parade viewing, done encircling Pasadena High School, and clean up the general mess in the city. Oh, and that means for most of the municipal workers except office staff, they are working New Years day. ![]() ![]() |

Sunday morning win. Sunday afternoon, here. ___ I never post to these threads because my chance of winning is almost nil. |

We can get some actual work done instead of watching the pesky kids. It's in our contract that those are paid holidays. The contract covers 5-600 people who work varying numbers of weeks per year. Some only work days students are present, 38 weeks. Some work 38.5, 39, or 39.5. I work 40 weeks. Some work 41, 42, or 44. And a few work 52 (but get vacation time, the amount of which they get increases the more years they work here, maxing out at 5 weeks per year I think). We all get Labor, Columbus, Veterans, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, King, President's, Pulaski, Good Friday (it's in our contract as such, but not on the official calendar -- it's just a no school day without a reason given), and Memorial. Those who work 52 weeks also get Independence. ... Well, I just tried to verify all this and it turns out that was a section of the contract where they "cleaned up the language" in our new one this year. It just says we get 12 holidays, if a holiday falls on a weekend we get another day, and non-52s don't get Independence. None of the other days are named. But the way they work it, they put a holiday on Christmas Eve and let the 52s take it off, and they also pay the rest of us for it. Same with New Year's Eve. The school year will end before Memorial Day this year (unless we have at least 3 emergency days (usually for snow, but we had one for rain a couple years ago)), but we will get paid for it anyway, because the 52s will get it off.
