Message 43711 - Posted: 14 Sep 2012, 20:03:58 UTC - in response to Message 42365.

Eric, I posted update to binaries at Lunatics.
Should recognize NV OpenCL platform now.
Also it should allow multiple instances w/o command line params.

Great! Thanks! I probably won't be able to get them on-line until tomorrow, though.

This was back in April Eric.

Now that the most recent bug is squashed, how far away from testing multiple instances on stock OpenCL are we now?

I'm getting a lot of pressure to get SAHv7 out the door first which means starting testing a GPU version ASAP. I'll see if testing multiple Astropulse per gpu will take much time away from that. I don't think it would, assuming the BOINC server support for that works. Given the support for OpenCL was mostly nonexistent when Astrpulse GPU testing started, I'm not optimistic that BOINC's support for that feature is functional.

In theory, yes. But someone has to tell me 1) where to get it 2) what source code was used to make it 3) what are the system hardware, system OS, GPU hardware, GPU driver, GPU memory, and BOINC version requirements.

We also should have a Stock 6.98 CPU app to match the changes the x41z GPU app has,

1) x41z general notes
- This document is for the Windows versions of x41z.
- You may have obtained this Cuda application either as a standalone manual install package (intended for advanced users), as part of a Lunatics Unified Installer, or as a stock application
automatic download.
- This application is intended to process seti@home multibeam tasks, on Cuda enabled nVidia Graphics Processing Units (GPUs)
- This application is currently available in 3 'flavour',
- Cuda 3.2 (min driver 263.06 ), to be distributed as 'stock' for widest support of Video drivers, and recommended for use on older GPUs prior to Fermi & Kepler, such as 8xxx series, 9xxx series, GTX 200 series
- Cuda 4.1 (min driver 285.62 ), recommended for Fermi & Kepler class GPUs for a significant performance increase
- Cuda 4.2 (min driver 301.24 ), being trialled for replacing Cuda 4.1 builds.
- Other earlier Cuda revisions will be supported soon, including older versions for higher performance on Pre-Fermi GPUs.
- each executable uses the 32 bit CUDA runtime (cudart32_xx_xx.dll), and CUFFT library (cufft32_xx_xx.dll)

XP or better, CUDA aware BOINC version, should run on 256 MB but will do better with 512 MB.

You should have the source already in seti_cvs at branches/sah_v7_opt/Xbranch. See updates r1412, r1413 of September 13.

Feel no pressure. I just wanted to open up the issue again, since it's been dormant since April. If you feel that GPU testing of V7 is first in line, then that's OK with me too.

I'm only interested in trouble, as much trouble as possible. :-)

After all, trouble and strange bugs, is what we're looking for here in Beta.

So, as long as I get trouble and problems, I'm satisfied. It can be V7 GPU problems, or multiple instances of AP problems, they're both fine with me.

Eric, please tell when MB7 GPU testing will start. I'm in the middle of some changes in OpenCL MB7 app so would like to know when some working should be ready :)

I think the answer to that is "as soon as I have apps to distribute". Probably early next week.

OK, I see x41z linux build, but I don't see Windows builds. (Unless they are inside the installers, in which case I need them outside the installers.)

Well, you already have ATi build, old though.
Ok, will see if I can provide something newer to next week.

Thanks. You might need to send me the link to the ATI build again. I'm sure it's in my email or PMs somewhere, but not entirely sure where. Or if you sent a zip file, gmail might have considered it too dangerous to let me have it.
