Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Topic 1: I do believe in extraterrestrial life. As for when and how we will meet them. I believe that 1 or more races have made contact with us, in one way or another. The reason ( i think ) this isn't known to all is that it could be dangerous to our civilization in many ways. Like when the Europeans came to America. Many of the natives where killed by disease, diseases( alien to them ) that they had no immunity to. The benefits would be great. Technologies to help us advance in medicine, space travel and many others.
Topic 2: I'm at odds with this one. I think it would be good in away to send out a signal, for the simple reason if someone answered we could benefit greatly. On the other hand what if their sun was dying ( or something threatening their race with extenction) and they where looking for another planet to colonize. With us sending a signal, they could come here wipe us out and move right on in.
Topic 3: I run SETI so i can do my part in contacting extraterrestrails. I love this project. I think it is great.I only wish i could do more.
