Profile: Mangee

Personal background
Just me, mangee. New Zealand ICT geek, keen on collaboration, Life 2.0, networking and just getting involved.
Just finished working locally as an analyst for a NZ co-operative with about 2 billion in annual sales, and now working for the people the run Homeland Security in the US - right here in NZ, as a Sys Admin.
I get involved in UP.org.nz - Unlimited Potential, the ICT Professionals Network in Wellington, I'm part of the nation wide short movie competition MovieFest, and I'm heavily involved in Mesh|net - trying to stretch the boundaries of content creation and internet bandwidth in urban New Zealand.
To chill out I find hills (preferably with aerials on them) and think. I'm an Apple fan, and yes if it has i in the name, I'm either selling something to get it - or have already got it.
I'm always searching for the truth, and while there is a possibility of something else out there, and my computer is sitting idle, I'm into SETI.

I'm an LJ fan.. http://mangee.livejournal.com and occasionally post. I pretty much live on Twitter - and pop up on FaceBook and FriendFeed

Mesh|net is my (portal) and I (used to) run a webcam at http://webcam.mangee.net.nz

Drop me a line via iChat/AIM/ICQ to OSXx86 -- I also habituate #WellyLUG on irc.sitharus.com

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I started SetiatHome years ago in 1999, and been returning results ever since. I figure the life of my processor is about 10 years -- and I might as well use it to good cause, rather than letting it languish at 96% idle. I've run setiathome of all kinds of machines -- the oldest was a Mac IIfx/40 -- which took way too long to return a work unit. It ran m68k linux.

In the last few years the hardware i'm processing work units on hasn't changed much - i've got a PIII/550 that used to run setiqueue -- and a toshiba laptop which power management won;t work on -- so spends it's constant on time doing "stuff" . I also have a few iMacs and other Apple computer floating in and out of my processor pool. More recently my iMac G5s have been doing a bit.
