Yes of course I believe extraterrestrial life exists! Why else would I be doing this?! I could have a screen saver of Jon Bon Jovi stripping instead!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I feel that once we have discovered alien life, it will make us look harder at our planet. There might be world uproar, panic and confusion, with people thinking ignorance is bliss. But if we expand further, if we can communicate effectively, maybe we'll enjoy different forms of music, entertainment & medicine we can't even comprehend right now, swopping it back and forth thru the universe like some huge library where all the civillisations share their treasures. That sounds a little bit 'Star Trek' now I read it back but I'll keep it in anyway! After we have discovered ET, I hope we'll look at ourselves differently, without skin colour & creed, but just as another carbon based bunch of life forms living on a planet near a star like the millions of others out there in the universe. Maybe Earth will even be ranked with a little sticker put on us saying 'see, you ain't that great.' I think we should transmit a beacon & we should make earth sound like an appealing holiday destination, lie like the brochures do. Joke! I think we should tell the truth, we're an untrusting ungrateful race of wasters & extreamly unenvironmentally friendly, but our animals and plants are very cool & interesting so come take a peek why don't you, while we still have some left?! And if we do get that intergalactic letter saying "we're on our way, so get the kettle on!" let's hope we'll get house proud for our visitors and have a massive spring clean of our planet, having maybe 1000's of years to tidy her up, plant more trees, save animals & quit bickering amongst ourselves. Maybe by then we'll have terraformed Mars into another Earth, and we'll be so ashamed of our mess we'll have to shuffle our vistors into the Mars guest room as this might be of what we are most proud. I wonder if they'll be impressed? When we do discover ETI we'll be able to show them our home & maybe they'll sit back & say "wow, I thought my planet was beautiful with it's six lavender moons and lakes of liquid silver, but this, this is something else".
