Profile: Gene Giermann

Personal background
I live outside of Prescott, AZ at approximately 1 mile in altitude. I have a rural straw bale home, and am in the process of building an observatory for visual astronomy.

I am a member of the Prescott Astronomy Club, former Democratic Party County Chair and a general volunteer in the community.

I am a retired IBM software engineer and am 65 years old. My wife is an artist and sculptor. I have 7 grand children 1 great grandkid and 5 step grandchildren.

I run both windoze and linux, with a preference for linux. However, windoze does have programs that allow me to pursue publishing (a hobby, I do newsletters for many organizations), control my telescopes and take astrophotos.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI at home boinc version because I am interested in verifying that life does in fact exist in other places in the universe. I believe once we discover we are not alone, we will cease to believe in gods creating us and start working together to create a heaven here on Earth and where ever else we may go. I believe that discovery will help the human race come out of it's infancy.
