Personal background
Hello my name is Sam Croy and I am from Ohio U.S.A. I am a disabled veteran and I live with my wife Margaret, two dogs and two cats. Margaret and I like to do various crafts and hobbies. She paints in oils and acrylics, I surf the Internet and play around building and tweaking computers. We both are beginning to learn to use polymer clay. Music and movies are our other mutual passions, we read a lot and garden in the summer.
Neither of us have worked for quite some time due to many health problems. When we were working Margaret was a cosmetologist and taught classes in Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. I have been many things and done many jobs. I spent eight years in the U.S. Navy, drove over the road tractor trailer, taxi, courier and managed to work ten years in factory maintenance.
We have no children except for the aforementioned dogs and cats. After 27 years of marriage we think we have a pretty good and stable relationship. Slowly we are both beginning to turn into old duffers but we try to maintain a young attitude towards life.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well if life doesn't exist elsewhere than Earth, I would be more surprised than not. It will be a very long time before there is any proof in either direction in my opinion. The whole history of the human race is but a small blip on the face of time.
I assume that if there are space traveling, (or time traveling), beings elsewhere in the universe they will contact us, if and when, they think we are worthy of such contact, and when it is in their own self interests to do so. As to benefits and dangers of contact, we will be just like the aboriginies of Austrailia or the Native peoples of the America and Africa, Chances are good we will get treated just as well, or poorly, as we have treated others in the past. Not a very inviting prospect is it? As I always like to say... "What comes around goes around". Maybe if we are lucky they will be more advanced in their treatment of newly discovered "aboriginies".
We have already been transmitting beacons... I.E. radio waves for many years. I sure hope the aliens like "Jack Benny" and "The Shadow". But if they tune into "Rush Limbaugh" we are in a whole heap of trouble!
I already run my computer 24 hrs a day and most of that time I am not using it. I figure the whole process of sharing computer power will eventually become common place. I never have been greedy with my toys.
