| Hi, my name is Boyd and I live in Portland, OR. I am a big fan of science fiction and fantasy novels and movies. I love music, especially Air Supply (yes, they're still around and making new music), Enya, Kitaro, and Clannad. I also enjoy painting small figurines (Skaven from Warhammer, if you're curious...and if you've never heard of them, let's just say they're little ratmen). I've been a devoted X-Phile since it first premiered in 1993, and have an affection for white tigers (there's a great big one hanging on my livingroom wall!). |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
| I think SETI was a great idea the first I heard of it. I believe absolutely in life on other planets...but they won't necessarily be "right next door." If we ever do meet any E.B.E.'s, I believe we should be careful not to over-react either way (we shouldn't just open our doors nice and wide, nor should we point a gun at their head and say, 'what you want??'). Also, is it not logical, given intelligent life does live outside our solar system, that they might also get the same idea and are right now listening for signs of intelligent life outside their solar system? We have the technology to listen, so we are. We have the technology to talk, so why shouldn't we? |
