Personal background
I am 47, living in the Chicago area. My hobbies, besides this computer, are scuba diving and amatuer radio. I was employed as a field engineer, (that's spelled r-e-p-a-i-r-m-a-n) at a third party company. That's "was", since I got downsized, and am now working with my brother in the locker buisness. Oh well, life goes on. The nice thing is not getting those frantic calls at 0-dark:30 because sombody droped a paper clip in the check sorter track.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I think extraterrestrial life must exist somplace. The
universe is just too big for this to only have happened
once. The benefits could be many, as for the dangers,
did you ever see the old Twilight Zone episode "To Serve
Man"?

2. I am not so sure about the beacon. see "dangers" above.

3. I run SETI@home (at work, because here we are on a T1
and home is a dial-up) because I like the idea of
playing some small part in finding ET.
