Profile: Govert Schalk

Personal background
My name is Govert Schalk, profession:Project Manager (Telecommunications)
hobbies: astronomy, geology
sport: squash, volleybal
location: The Netherlands, Heerewaarden (small village in relative "dark" area)
In march 2003 completed constructing my own observatory, (using Meade LX200 10 inch SCT, and Bresser refractor 5 inch for moon occultations and sun eclipse observations)
While my computer was not busy for astronomy,I learned from a friend about the SETI program; it now runs version 3.08 of setiathome
I find it interesting to look-up the coordinates given in the workunits when strong signals are present and check starmaps and sky in case something is out there.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I strongly believe that some civilisations must be present in this vast cosmos outside our solar system. The problem is where to find and how to communicate with them. I recommend to extend the observations made in Arecibo to other frequency/time domains because we have no clue what frequencies or signals are used by ET. Further I'm proud to be part of the evergrowing SETI community trying to find ET.
