Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Absolutely. There must be extraterrestrial life. I really believe this. Otherwise it would be an awful waste of space. (movie: Contact).
I think we will discover extraterrestrial life in the next 5 years.
I cannot wait to open a chat session with my next door alien lifeform. ;)
Dangers ? well chatting with an alien is dangerous because you could catch new kind of computer viruses. brrrr.
2) I don't think we need a beacon. Were already to obvious with all the stuff we are sending out in space. And if you really need to build a beacon I would make an extraterrestrial internet. That's more information any extraterrestrial life would need.
3) I run SETI because I like the idea of a monster number crunching machine by using the internet. Also I think that SETI is a project that needs support from people like me.
Suggestion: make sure that all SETI users are the first to know if there is any extraterrestrial life or signal found. We want to be the first to go nuts. :)
