Personal background
I'm a 20 year old Computer Tech. student living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, soon to be enrolling as a Journalism student as well. I have never had an interest in Sci Fi at all, and still don't. I don't actively believe anything else exists, but, I do not believe nothing exists, either. I cannot have a firm stance on something without more information to work with. Recently, after reading The Hitch Hikers Guide series by D. Adams I started to think a lot about the possibilities of our Universe... I mean, a man on a deserted island, having never known anything but the island, or ever seen any other land, will think he is alone on this island, and there is nothing but endless ocean out there. We're in the same situation. We can't SEE any other life, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's just so far away... I don't know if there are crazy looking purple things with a million tentacles, or just pure floating balls of energy or something, but there could be anything. Maybe oxygen is poison to them! You never know. There's no way we could know everything. There could be billions of gasses, elements etc. we have no idea exist. Maybe on some distant planet gravity is twisted in such a way that entering the atmosphere instantly crushes you into the size of a single atom. Anything is possible.

My joining this site is basically my massive curiosity, telling me I need to help out. I want to be a part of something that might eventually solve some of the questions we have no real answers to. No opinions, or guesses, real answers. Even if I'm just a small part, I want to be a part.

Also, I play games! RPG's, fighters and racers, a little DDR here and there ^_^
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

1. I do not know for sure if they exist. I can't give a solid yes or no... But, I can say if they don't exist, that's an awful waste of space... Billions and billions of miles of wasted space... It doesn't seem likely. We can't see the end of the Universe, yet alone get anywhere near there... But what if the Universe is just a sphere? There would be NO end at all. Maybe we're just one of many? I don't know when humans will discover other life, or even if we ever will. I don't think there are any dangers, honestly. As a planet of people who pollute, and kill each other in mass every day I don't think going to someone else's planet is dangerous. Going to the store can sometimes be dangerous. Well, I guess it would be dangerous, but no more dangerous than anything else you can do on this very planet. The biggest benefit in my mind is just knowing something else exists. Getting closer to an answer.

2. Yes, I think we should. What information we should send is simple. "We're new here, please help us out". Obviously if they could FIND our beacon, this would be very true information. If they are smart and advanced enough to find it, might as well be humble in our inferiority. Afterall, if we can't find them, but they can find us, we need all the help we can get.

3. I run SETI@home to try and help out people who are trying to find some of the same answers as I am. I think the project is a great idea. I always look up at the sky and think, "What is up there we can't see? I wish we could see...", and I think SETI is helping us to do just that.
