Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that it is important to learn as much as we can about that which lies beyond this Earth, therefore I run SETI@Home for the same reason I study astronomy and cosmology, because I can, and because the sciences need the help and support of private groups and individuals.

Currently, governmental funding for research projects headed up by private groups and universities is being taken away and swallowed up by pharmaceutical companies, unions, and welfare programs worldwide. If private funding and volunteerism for space research does not increase in proportion, we will lose a tremendously exciting and important area of research, of which SETI is a part; the research of the universe which is home to our planet, beginning just overhead and extending outward for an infinite distance beyond.

I believe that there is life out there. How could there not be? If the necessary conditions for life to exist can be present here on Earth, then those conditions must exist elsewhere as well.

It is only a matter of time before we find the proof, and I hope to live to see the day.
