Personal background
I am 32 years old and live in London, Ontario, Canada. I try to enjoy each and every day i am given on this planet, because one never knows when their time on this lonely rock drifting through space will be over. The things that bring me the most pleasure in my life are my wonderful family, including two beautiful neices, one of whom it is my great honour to call my goddaughter, and the special friends i have the great privilege of calling friends. They have brought me some of the most treasured and lasting memories that i have accumulated in my short lifespan. I spend much of the time working in order to afford the lifestyle that i have, and therefore i treasure my free time that much more because i have so little of it. I can be found surfing the Web or catching up on my favourite T.V. shows, and getting together with friends on occasion to eat, have some "brown pops" and get into some trouble(just a little). Though there is currently no significant other in my life, i keep believing the right individual will come along in time to make my life just that much more rewarding and treasured, with a couple of kids down the road. Hope that everyone who reads this just stops for a moment or two just to appreciate everything that they have in their life and what they would be missing out on without it. Remember, we're here for a good time, not a long time.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that Seti@home is one of the best ideas that we humans have come up with in the 20th and 21st centuries. The search for intelligent life elsewhere in the galaxy is very important to the future of mankind itself. If we succesfully make contact with another species, it might help to unite mankind in order for us to perhaps take our rightful place as one member of a much greater community, and perhaps emphasize that we are just a minor peice of a much bigger puzzle. Mankind must one day leave this cradle that has nourished and protected us, and move out into the galaxy in search of other mysteries and wonders, and perhaps other homes for mankind. We would be very naive indeed to believe that we are the only lifeform that has evolved into a higher form. In fact, to believe that we are even that advanced at all would be very arrogant on our part. My hope is that our insatiable thirst to discover all the mysteries of the universe will reap many rewards for humankind, and i am very glad to have the chance to become even a tiny part of this dream by contributing to the search. For those who are afraid to face a potential future where man is one voice among many, i hope we can eventually calm their fears and bring them to an acceptance of the possibilities that future would hold for our future descendants. Unfortunately, i have no suggestions as to how we might be able to speed up the process, but perhaps a hasty approach would not be a good idea after all, until all of mankind is ready to accept it, and we have learned how to find solutions to the problems that now plague us all. Good luck to us all!
