Profile: Richard Bott

Personal background
Growing up on the north shore of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada, I had the chance to look up into a sky that wasn't polluted by city lights.

I spent quite a few nights laying out in my sleeping bag, wondering if there was someone like me lying under a different set of stars, using what ever sensory apparatus they had to "look" at the sky.

There were a lot of writers that informed me and helped me imagine the possibilities of extraterrestrial (and sentient) life - Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, et al.

I believed it then... and, having "grown up", I believe it now.

I'm a minister in a pretty middle of the road Christian denomination. Some of my colleagues look at me strangely when I invite them to explore the possibilities of extraterrestrial life. It surprises me that people living in this age can continue to see this planet, revolving around this particular star, could be the central focal point in the universe(s)!

With so many glaxies, with so many stars, with so many planets... having been in existance for so many years... how could there *not* be life elsewhere?
