Personal background |
I'm an 18 year old freshman at the University of Minnesota Morris. I am currently attempting a double major in Computer Science and Philosophy, and I enjoy sitting around and leaving my computer on for days at a time running Seti@home |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I do believe that extraterrestrial life exists, but I think when we as a species mature further, they will come to us. The benefits and dangers are a very broad subject, for for any race that could be coming to us to extend a hand in friendship and to offer us advances in technology and society that we greatly need, there could be another race that is malevolant, and for whatever reason would want to enslave us as a race or take us out of the picture. I believe that we should send out a beacon, and have it project information on our level of technological, cultural, and other achievements as of the creation of the probe. I run seti@home so I can contribute my idle time to a interesting cause, and I think the project has merit, albeit the first signals we find will be very old ones from whatever civilization we may encounter, such as any signals "they" recieve from us will be from the early 1900s |
