Personal background
Greetings to fellow searchers!
I am a 40 year old programmer living in Ontario, Canada, and run 2 computers at the moment for seti@home. In fact, the seti@home project is only the tip of a very large iceberg for me. I have spent a very solid 25 years researching ufology, and astronomy. I am not a closet ufologist, but at the same time I am not carried by every or any fad, or current mainstream conclusion. I pride myself in thinking out of the box while closely examining any and all evidence. My greatest wish in life is to be sitting with my son, and having an emergency address from our Prime Minister or your President stating something like "at 03:00 hours, EST, SETI announced that contact has been verified of an extra terrestrial origin". I want to see my sons eyes, oh, and mine too. There is no greater feeling of satisfaction when a belief, or knowledge of something so deep inside, from time we were first able to remember is proven true.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think seti@home is a wonderful idea for 2 main reasons.
1: This gives any one human on the planet the chance to be part of something that not only will change our lives as we know it, but history itself. We grow up learning about history and people that changed our lives. Well, one day, I, or my son or you can be the one that processes that signal while our little computers chug away all night. And people, this discovery is not just a new finding in a process of findings, this IS the discovery of the century. Our lives and the planets social structure will forever change, hopefully unifying us not as planet with countries and borders, but as one combined species. Our borders and lands that so many die for will become irrelevant as the new border becomes our atmosphere.
2:SETI cannot do this alone. Plain and simple. Think about it people, they pointed Hubble in an are that they thought was empty, and after 10 days of gathering light on the CCD, they discovered 3000 galaxies in that tiny part of sky! (that they thought had nothing in it). SETI has the task comparable of sampling every drop of water in the oceans with an eyedropper. Its a profound amout of work for one organization. Not only that, their success will change and unify all peoples. I also love SETI as its not a black project, or something clandestine. Their success goes global.
