Ah, good; the mention of my toils under the classic SETIatHome now shows in my BOINC SETI profile. I was rather worried when it didn't at first ;) Pretty pleased with myself for having had the forethought to join the project allready in the previous millennium: December 5th 1999. OK, right from the start or December 31st would both have been cooler...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I joined SETI@home because it's vital that we discover ETI's before it's too late to appeal possible plans for transgalactic highways through earths orbit ;o)

This is not just me trying to be funny; if there are any intelligent life forms out there, I really want to know what they're getting up to! I have no good reason to believe neither that we're alone in our corner of the universe or that we're not, but I'm positive that it's something we should find out if we can. The implications if we find intelligence within reach of our communication technology are mindboggling!

Also, wasted cycles are bad, most definitely very bad!

My view on the project is that I'm hooked. The feeling of accomplishing something, however miniscule, without actually having to do any work yourself is a very rare fenomenon. I like the idea that by contributing ressources that would otherwise go to waste, I can help create and sustain a groundbraking and important project.

To mention some negative things (I'm just that kind of person, I guess): The BOIC client still has some growing-up to do, and... well, that's it, I guess.

Suggestions?

Other types of data-collection and signal transmission should be checked out for suitability for distributed computing. I'm sure the project management continually looks into ways of getting the most out of our combined processing powers, though.

Also, the "Edit your profile" page really needs to stop adding \\ in front of all ' and " and \\ (sic!) in the profile text every time it's accessed!

This is what it looks like after a few edits: It\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s annoying! Seriously!
