Profile: Pam Beardsley

Personal background
I am a 53 year old rockhound who works with diabled students completing their Secondary College Education. My speciality areas are students with language disabilities and students with Autism. My speciality subjects are Computing (including programming) and of course English.

I spend most of my time fossicking for gems and semi precious gems. This allows me to spend a lot of time in the 'bush' where I can bushwalk, take photos and generally reenergise.

I love the idea that a group of people are collectively pursuing an idea that for many people is challenging and often 'scary'. Nice 'lateral thinking' approach.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. We cannot be alone in the Universe but to what degree 'life' exists and its development remains to be seen. If highly developed that life will find us but otherwise science holds the key through exploring our 'whole world' ie the Universe.

2. If we are seeking out ofther forms of developed life then I think they are probably walking along the same path; therefore we should send out beacons.

Be positive not paranoid, we are all searching for our 'better halves' - Earths better half may just be a few million light years away.

3. I run SETI@home because as an inidvidual I have neither the expertise or the resources to advance our knowledge base but collectively we can at least try.
