Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I'm open to the possibility of life 'out there' but sceptical about most UFO sightings etc. I would need proper scientific evidence to really convince me and I think that SETI@Home goes some way to helping us in that direction.
2. I don't see why we shouldn't send some sort of signal to 'who/whatever' is out there. I say 'who/whatever' because we can sometimes fall into the trap of imagining that ET life would naturally be much like ourselves. It could be unlike anything we can presently imagine.
3. I run SETI@Home because my PC is fast enough and has enough RAM to have it working away in the background unobtrusively while I do other stuff. If it helps us to eventually bag a genuine alien signal then that seems to be the best reason to run it. The more people who do, the easier the job will be! |
