Im 39 years old and a father to two boys that are absolutely crazy about me as I am them. I do computer programming and have been doing that for 20 years. However, when I am not programming or playing around on the computer I have it going full ahead on Seti Packages. :)
However on a mental scale i never act over 18 according to my boys .. They would say I am a giant recycled teenager at heart..
AND... I can't confirm nor deny that.........
Life is too short not to have fun!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have been processing Seti@home packages for over 10 years now. What I really like about doing this is that it allows someone else to benefit from my computer's idle time (well actually my system is running seti 24/7 - So I can't really say IDLE). Allowing SETI to use my computer to process signals seems like a great use of its time when I am not using it. Perhaps with my contribution, and those of many other SETIans (If there is such a world lol) , maybe we will get an answer to the life long question "Are we alone in the universe.... ?"
I really enjoy the SETI project! I think the technology and the job that SETI does by surveying the sky looking/listening for noise/signals is great and can potentially provide a slew of knowledge for other questions beside the big "are we alone..." one.
I would love to see (perhaps on a future update to the software - HINT HINT) :) that they will show us what part of the sky, exact time and duration of the package we are processing. As for the individual user accounts, or perhaps at a team level too, it would be nice to see counts for No detection, Possible detection, and Verified Signals Detected that are truly extraterrestrial.
I think this would be awesome to view if our systems actually helped catch something for SETI during the analysis on the work package received.
