Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Are we alone? I have no idea, and I don't think anyone else has any idea.
Sure, as Sagan pointed out there are unimaginable zillions of planets. However, to factor this into a calculation of the statistical probability of extraterrestrial life, one multiplies the number of planets by the likelihood of life occurring/planet. As we have absolutely no idea how/when life is created (not to mention having no idea what/why exactly life is), assigning a value to the likelihood of it occurring is literally impossible. The nature of life is a mystery, so we have no idea whether it might occur elsewhere.
Happy Trails!
