Personal background
Hiya! I'm a roof truss designer from Florida. I enjoy all "outdoorsey" stuff... hiking, camping, backpacking. Also into unusual cars. Currently working on a 1959 Renault Dauphine (no comments, please!).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I look at Seti @ home the same way I look at the lottery. I doubt I'll ever see anything, but the chance is still exciting to think about.
I'm not the smartest man in the world... I mean, have you seen the picture of my car? Still, I wonder about picking up radio signals from other worlds. We on Earth have only had radio technology for a little over a hundred years. I just think about the possibility that other civilizations developed other technologies that we can't even imagine, or are not advanced enough to detect. I think the assumption that electromagnetic waves are universally used for communication is akin to believing that alien beings are also driving around in internal combustion powered wheeled vehicles... like 1959 Dauphines! How advanced could they be?!?
