Personal background |
I'm from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I'm married with 2 kids. Hobbies include music, playing the guitar, and, of course, computers.
I signed up with SETI in August of 2002, but I didn't start seriously crunching units until a few months ago (it's now June, 2003). Already I've got over 1500 units. I've sometimes got as many as 6 computers running the SETI command line program at the same time! The slowest is a Pentium II 233 which takes about 27 hours to do one unit. The fastest, depending on how you look at it, is either my Athlon XP (Barton) 2800 (about 3 hours/unit) or a Compaq Proliant server with 4 CPUs running 4 instances of the command line client at the same time (about 8 hours/unit or 12/day). So, I've been able to complete units fairly quickly if I remember to start SETI during idle times.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I really like the whole idea of the SETI program. I like the idea of a huge community of people volunteering their resources to contribute further to our knowledge of space. It's just a really nice idea. It also becomes a bit of an obsession to see how quickly you can run up your totals.
