Personal background
I run the help desk at a satellite company for a major food service company. I am active in Cub Scouts and working on completing a B.S. in General Studies with minors in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and a certificate in Web Design. I have long been a fan of Sci-fi and was hooked on the idea of alien life after reading L. Ron Hubbard’s Battlefield Earth in High School. I was so taken with it that I did a fifteen page term paper on Hubbard. I found out about the seti@home program and jumped right on it. I am glad to see the project for several reasons. First it is a life long dream of mine to know if there are others out there and as a tech junkie, the coordination of all the computing power is just plain COOL!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I HOPE that there is other life out there. I can't imagine an existance where we are the only thing in the universe. I am sure that there may be some dangers and difficulties in find that other life, but we humans have proven time and again that we can adapt and survive. I sincerly hope that we find some sort of confermation in my life time. Our technology is growing at an amazing pace. The things my children take for granted were amazing to me when they first appeared. My son has a video game machine that has more memory in it than my first IBM compatible PC. I remember nearly fainting when I got my first hard drive, it was a whopping 50 megs.

I feel that we should send out information in a way that another life form would stand a chance of communicating with us. How to go about this is a whole other story.

Seti@home is a great idea for a couple of reasons. I like it on one hand because it may prove useful in finding signs of other life. On the other hand, it is an AMAZING feat of computing. I wish that it took more than the technophiles and the "oddballs" (I fit into both groups) to prove that we as a race can work together towards a common goal. I would much rather be doing the seti work than wasting my time arguing and fighting with our neighbors.
