Personal background
I generally find things to do with the cosmos very interesting and I think it's worth a shot to see if there is any form of life (intelligent or otherwise) elsewhere in the Universe; and this is how my once considerable computing power came in handy. But since my last profile update, my sturdy Grape G3 DV 400 iMac has been pilfered. However in the interim, I have commandeered a few laboratory computers to take over the task in hand.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It wouldn't surprise me if there is extraterrestial life, but how well developed it is, is impossible to say until it has been discovered. I don't think that there are any inherent dangers from making such a discovery, humans should have more to worry about collisions with near earth objects - Just one of those completely buggered the dinosours, after having a particularly stout and successful innings on this planet; presumably such an event could be just as catastrophic for us. That's unless we go completely bonkers and blow ourselves up, anyway.
