Personal background
I'v enjoyed doing a number of things in Information Technology, Communications and Audio/Video Systems. My experience spans Military, Federal/State Government and the Private Sector. I am a radio amateur - have been WB4HON, KL7O, and now am AF4PZ - but I'm "rare DX" these days.
One activity I've undertaken is writing science fiction. My first two novels are Earth Alien, and the sequel, Penna, The Alien Earthling. Find more about them at my website http://www.earthalien.com and I am working on the third book in the Earth Alien trilogy, Familiar Aliens. In my Earth Alien stories, there is this river of sorts that flows through the galaxy like the Gulf Stream. The river is called the Cosmic Storm and carries genetic materials from one planetary system to another. In the early life of the galaxy, the Cosmic Storm picked up and laid down genetic materials, and intermingled them among the planets in their formative years. This created life forms in the different planetary systems that are compatible with each other. These life forms, human-like, are similar but different, as the animals in Australia are different from the animals on other continents.
I also might talk about the UFOs in the 1960s, but I'll save that for another time.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
This is one of the "real" or serious efforts to detect extraterrestrial life. Listening through all the human and other terrestrial noise is a monumental task. The project must guard against being spoofed, i.e., someone on Earth bouncing signals off of the moon or another planet. What is an intelligent signal? Even now, Earth technology is moving more toward spread spectrum and ultrawideband type of signals -- these may become the mainstream way of signal transmission, with their random noise modulation techniques and "in the mud" signal levels. I'm sure SETI is looking at a whole range composite patterns and not just discrete carriers. This really is a think-out-of-the-box project.
