Personal background
I've been interested in space and the unknown since very young. Been doing Seti units since June 99, and have almost reached the 1000 mark (997 as at 20 Dec 2001). I have had to cut down on the number of units i can do simultaneously since i have lost access to the heavy duty machines i used to crunch on. I now run on a PIII 550 running Mandrake linux.

I am a techie who was working for the biggest company in the world (GE) until being made redundant in September 20001. Now trying to make it in the world on my own.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't really know if there is other life out there. Part of me says there must be (by laws of probability and averages), and part of me says there isn't (the bible). Lots of other people think the same way, i'm sure.
I gladly help in the Seti project out of my natural curiousity in the realms of space etc. and being involved in the biggest communal use of computers and the internet that the world has seen.

If we DO discover life out there, will it's technology 'corrupt' ours, and possibly cause the destruction of the human race? Or could the reverse happen, and we wipe out another civilisation? Could humans live with the consequences of either (admittidly extreme) situation? Who knows?
