Profile: Samuel Gold

Personal background
I was the ILC Computer Lab Manager at the College of Southern Nevada (formerly the Community College of Southern Nevada) in Las Vegas, Nevada U.S.A. from December 1997 until July 2006. I have always believed that we are not alone in the universe and I have always wanted to help S.E.T.I research.

Since I managed one of the largest academic computing labs in Nevada, I knew that I could help Seti@home in a big way. After speaking with my colleages, we formed the group College of Southern Nevada and we have been in the top 5 of junior colleges group since 2000.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I believe that ET is out there. He may be thousands of light years away, but he is out there. It is arrogant presumption to believe that we are alone in the universe. It may not happen in my lifetime, but it will happen.

2) I think we should send more unmanned Voyager-type probes in the universe. We should send the type of data that is on the gold disk of Voyager I and II, images, sounds, and greetings from the people of the good Earth.

3) I run Seti@home because my PC in on all the time anyway. It is good to know that computers under my care are useful 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This distributed computing project is the best thing to happen to mankind since the Apollo space missions. I think that the Seti@home staff at UC Berkeley are doing a fine job.
