Personal background
My full name is Carlos Lisandro Ponce Castillo.
People call Carlos.
I'm an astronomy amateur and major in San Francisco. If you've ever been to San Francisco you'll know this is probably the worst of cities to do astronomy in. The fog rolls in awkwardly and unexpectedly, like the odd drunk uncle nobody invited for the family reunion but somehow found his way into the house. In similarity to the uncle it is just an unwelcome. in contrast to it, there is a certain beauty about this meteorological phenomena happening in front of your eyes; an object that should be suspended in the high mountains descending here on earth to engulf the city.
San Francisco captivates my heart, but my mind is for the skies.
The sky, that magical unreachable place. In mythology it was the seat of Gods, in Christianity it was the place to go after one's death, in reality it holds more grandeur in it's intricate simplicity, it's wealth of knowledge, in it's vast expanse than anything we could have ever imagined.
We know this thanks to science, that greatest of human endeavor.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
By now you may think I like being overly verbose, but I really couldn't think of anything better to say. I'm passionate about science, all science; physical, chemical, biological, psychological.
I'm fascinated by the world of ideas, and thus, you'll probably find me about 70% with my nose inside a book. Be it "Moby Dick", "the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy", "1984", "Breaking the spell" if it's a good book I'll read it.
Lastly, I'm glad to devote what little I can to the search for "the others".
What are they made of? How do they communicate? Do they have religions? Do they cook? What are they made of? There's so much about them that must be different from us, and knowing about them would make the things we take for granted about us stand out.
