Personal background
Hello, my name is Joep van den Dikkenberg.
I work as a technician at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands on a laboratory doing fundamental research on Membrane enzymes.
My work is most of the times associated with the "center of biological membranes and lipids" institute in the netherlands.

My specialisation is Enzyme function and membrane-protein isolation. I work with Yeast, bacteria and mamalian-cells. I do DNA enginering and protein enginering.
Our lab has 17 scientists, 3 students, 4 technicians, 4 post-docs, 3 PSD-students, 1 Univerity doctor, 1 guest professor and the head-professor.

I live together with my girlfriend in the old center of Leiden.. One of the oldest cities in Holland.
And my hobby is building computers, (simple)-programming, strategic-games.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am interrested in the small things of life..Molecular workings of the cell as a whole ordered mechanism and also the universe as a whole mechanism.

I don't see any limits in science..it is unlimited just like space itself.

If extraterrestrial life exists?? of course...! I have seen so many miracles of life...the beginning of life itself is pure coincidence, a miricle, why not the same miracle on an other planet! If I work in the lab, I work a lot with bacteria..if I put artificial DNA in a tube containing 100.000.000 bacteria I have a possibilty to find the DNA back in 500 bacterial cells or maybee more. And in Nature DNA is broken down before it enters the cell, there are many possebilities for the cell to get rid of unknown DNA! so finding back my artificial DNA in the bacteria is a pure coincidence.. How many planets are out there in the universe... I don't believe that pure coincidence will happen once!

And imagine if extraterrestial life forms have knowledge, just like us. This will change the world as we know it.

This is the reason why I run SETI@home. Because I believe that coincidence doesn't happen once.
