Profile: Locus Solus

Personal background
I'm a research physicist from the UK: I knew I wanted to be a scientist since I was 6 years old, then specifically a physicist from age 11. Now I work in the field of optics and high power density plasma physics for a private company. I have a BSc in physics with astrophysics, MSc in mathematics, and a PhD in atomic and radiation physics.

I love archery, the outdoors, mountain biking, rock climbing and paddling! I'm a 32 year old happily married bisexual guy, I've been with my husband for over 12 years now.

I joined SETI@Home because I believe that contact with extraterrestrial life will be a catalyst for the unification of our planet - no borders just humans. I hope we could learn from such a society, but I realise that the chances of contact are remote - especially since we can't know for sure how an advanced civilisation would communicate, but as J. R. R. Tolkien once wrote: “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I feel this is an incredibly worthwhile endeavour - to know we are not alone.

2. For something with such huge cultural and historic value the project does not receive nearly enough attention or funding.

3. More social media exposure? In this age it seems to be one of the most effective ways to get people involved.
