Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes. No doubt about it. They don't come visiting though.
Our skills have not yet reached the ability to communicate with life beyond our own solar system so if anyone is to do the discovery it will be the other form of life out there. But we do have to keep our ears open.
Benefits to discovering ET would include the end of religon as we know it.
Dangers would probably be the lack of knowlegde in how to handle such a meeting.

2. Yes. Sending out signals is the only way of attracting attention so that we may be found in our universe. We should say "Come on down, your the next contestant on the Price is Right", and then wait a few eons for ET to show up. :)

3. I run SETI at home for two main reasons. 1st. It is so very cool. 2nd. I want to contribute my computer to science.
